How to kill a dust mite quiz

  1. A 10 minute soak in hot water (50 C or 122 F) will kill all dust mites in your laundry - True or False?

  2. Adding bleach to warm water and soaking for 30 minutes will get rid of all the dust mites in your laundry - True or False?

  3. It is possible to kill dust mites in a cold water wash - True or False?

  4. The two most common dust mites begin with the letters DP and DF - True or False?


Answers:

  1. False. A soak at this very hot temperature for greater than 30 minutes is required to kill all the mites.

  2. False. Soaking 4 hours in warm water with bleach will kill less than half of the mites!

  3. True. A product called de-mite can kill all the mites even in cold water.

  4. True. The two most common dust mites are Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (DP) and Dermatophagoides farinae (DF).
