Bagless vacuum cleanersJune 4, 2003
One of our patients recently told me she was disappointed with her bagless vacuum. I thought it would be great," she said. "It has a HEPA filter, and it does fine when I am vacuuming, but the problem comes when I have to empty the cannister. Then I am exposed to all the allergens and I am miserable the rest of the day." A couple weeks later she came in and said, "I've finally gotten a new vacuum cleaner. It uses a bag with a sealed HEPA filtration system. It has made such a difference!" Several times after that she has remarked how much better she feels since she stopped using the old bagless vacuum cleaner. Since I've published this item, another person wrote with this comment: "I got a bagless..oh how I hate that vacumn. Makes more dust then one with a bag. Very dissatisfied!" -- Lisa I did some research and found that a leading consumer magazine also found the emptying of bagless vacuums to be a problem for people with allergies. While bagless vacuums are convenient for people who forget to empty the bag, for people with allergies, the sealable HEPA filter bags appear to be best.
