ALLERGY BRIEFS
Giving an allergy shot to someone elseMarch 6, 2003
Allergy injections can cause very serious reactions and can even be fatal. Serious reactions can include wheezing, hives, constriction of the windpipe due to swelling, and shock. These reactions require immediate medical intervention. Many physicians refuse to permit allergy injections to be given at home for this reason. Even if your friend's physician allows him to take the injections at home, you should never give an allergy injection to anyone unless you have been properly trained by the physician providing the allergy extracts. If you are receiving allergy injections, never allow anyone who has not received verbal training and instructions from your allergist to give you the injections. My guess is that the dosage is 0.25 cc. If this is right, and you give him 2.5 cc, you are giving him 10 times the dose he is to have! That could have extremely serious consequences. Please do not give anyone an injection or allow anyone to give you an injection without thorough training by the physician providing the injections or his nursing staff. |
