Medication dosages for childrenAugust 5, 2004
Over the counter medication labels are designed to suggest the safe dosage for children and adults. If you want to give your child a different dose than that recommended on the label for the child's age, you should always check with the child's physician. Your child's physician will make a decision based on the child's age, weight, physical condition, medical condition, possible side effects of the medication, and the child's need for this drug. He may also recommend a different medication, such as one of the non-sedating antihistamines available by prescription. Some of these are considered safe for very young children at recommended doses. Phone your physician's office and ask to speak with his nurse. She can talk with the physician to determine the best medication and dosage for your child. |
